Department of Pharmacology
Pharmacology is a branch of Pharmaceutical sciences mainly concern with study of drug changes in human body and mechanism of drug action and its effects on various physiological systems. It involves in testing of new drug efficacy, safety, tolerability and ADME properties in preclinical and clinical settings.
The Department’s research activities mainly focus on testing of bioactive molecules from natural sources or synthesized from our lab for various activities includes neurodegenerative disorders include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson diseases, ischemic stroke models (focal and global ischemia models), ischemic reperfusion models (heart and renal), diabetes, atherosclerosis and obesity and also focus on zebra fish model and Drosophila fly model.
Department of Pharmacology provides insights in areas of pharmacology, toxicology, drug discovery, clinical pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics, preclinical pharmacology, clinical research and pharmacovigilance to students of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharmacy) and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) programs and Master of Pharmacy (Pharmacology) programme.
The department prepares master’s and Ph.D. graduates with scientific competence in handling of animals like rat, mice, rabbits, route of drug administration to animals, designing of study protocol for animal study, hands on training on various complicated preclinical models such as coronary artery ligation, carotid artery ligation, cannulation of various arteries, osteoporosis induction by ovariectomy, statistical design for their studies.
