Department of Industrial Pharmacy

Drug molecules with known pharmacological actions cannot be given to patients as such, there should be given as an effective and patient compatible form. Department of Industrial Pharmacy deals with the science of dosage forms, which includes all steps to turning a new drug molecule into a safe and effective dosage form. It teaches and guides about the complete activities run in pharmaceutical industry. It incorporates all the disciplines starting from preformulation studies, pilot scale-up studies, manufacture, evaluation, labelling and packaging etc., until a new drug molecule reaches the market as a dosage form.

The Department’s research activities centre on formulation science and drug delivery, with strengths in pharmaceuticals, processing and drug delivery. Research in various drug delivery systems, characterization of fundamental properties of drug and excipients and their adaptation to optimize formulation and processing.

Department of Industrial Pharmacy provides insights in areas of Dispensing, Pharmaceutical engineering, Pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutical formulation, Industrial equipment design, novel drug delivery, packaging, regulatory affairs, intellectual property rights, biopharmaceutics & Pharmacokinetics to students of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharmacy) and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree programs.

The department prepares master’s and Ph.D. graduates with scientific competence in preformulation, formulation development, pharmaceutical processing/manufacturing, and targeted drug delivery systems
