Pharm. D Program

Pharm. D (Doctor of Pharmacy) is the first professional Clinical Pharmacy program, approved by the Government of India in 2008. The Pharmacy Council of India is the apex body governing it. This course was designed to prepare pharmacists to take on an essential role in patient care as part of the healthcare team. In many countries, a PharmD degree is necessary to obtain a license to practice as a pharmacist.

Pharm.D. graduates can be referred to as Clinical Pharmacists, licensed practitioners with advanced education and training who work in various patient care settings and focus on comprehensive medication management.

Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (RIPER) was one of the first pharmacy institutes to introduce a PharmD program in 2008. The program is backed by a team of distinguished educators from universities worldwide with extensive national and international experience. The PharmD program at RIPER is a comprehensive six-year journey.  The first two years lay a strong foundation with core pharmacy subjects, and the next four years provide extensive training in clinical settings. This holistic approach ensures that our students are well-prepared for the challenges of the healthcare industry.

Pharm.D. students at Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research are offered a unique and invaluable opportunity for hands-on experience at the 352-bed RDT Hospital. With its 12 specialized departments, this secondary care facility provides the best healthcare services in Andhra Pradesh. From the second to the fifth year of Pharm.D., students are immersed in various wards of different departments under the guidance of experienced teachers and the hospital’s healthcare team. The sixth year of Pharm.D. is dedicated to internship training, where students work independently in patient care settings alongside medical PGs and the hospital’s healthcare team. Additionally, students have the chance to further enhance their skills with training at recognized national and international centers for up to three months.
